- Project framework

The team QILM at LPMC is looking for an Early Stage Researcher (ESR), i.e. PhD, Position on Integrated Quantum Photonics, notably on Ultra-fast deterministic single photon source and on-chip generation and manipulation of photon-number states

  • Duration : 36 months

- Scientific framework

The goal of the PICQUE consortium is to establish a world-class training platform spreading around the highly interdisciplinary/inter-sectorial European-led area of integrated quantum photonics. The PICQUE objectives are to :

  • strengthen research in this new and extremely fast developing strategic research field ;
  • teach and train the next generation of scientists, team leaders, lecturers and entrepreneurs ;
  • bring together the key complementary areas (and hence groups) important for establishing a European quantum integrated photonics community ;
  • involve in close collaborations all the major European companies having a business connected with Quantum information science (QIS).

- Objectives of this ESR position

  • Exploit integrated optics on Lithium Niobate associated with telecommunication components for ultra fast photon-pair generation to comply with the demand for higher bit rates in quantum communication.
  • Use state-of-the-art telecom laser having a repetition rate ranging from 5 to 40 GHz.
  • Demonstrating a simple, high-speed, and time-accurate single photon source.

- Training network and required skills

The recruited ESR will be part of the ITN, which means that he/she will be granted access to the training activities of the PICQUE project, such as school of physics, management, and entrepreneurship.

Working with photonic qubits involves hands on manipulation of lasers, optical system, single-photon detection, guided-wave optics, as well as high-end electronics. Thus, the work is experimentally very multifaceted. Besides the experimental work, a solid theoretical understanding will be necessary, and the candidate will also be expected to be able to work within a team.
